This Bloem hunk is a finalist for Mr Gay World Southern Africa
Juan Pinnick, winner of the Mr Gay Mardi Gras Southern Africa title, is a finalist for Mr Gay World Southern Africa. He was automatically entered into the competition after being announced as Mr Gay Mardi Gras.
Participants have to run a campaign as delegates and also have to promote themselves as a brand. “We’ve had to record adverts for Gay SA Radio” says Pinnick. “The hardest part at this stage is to try and find time do to do the tasks, answering questions from people for advice and to still get my work done, but there’s always a way.”
Pinnick has three main campaigns, MobieG, a LGBT support group he started with his boyfriend. “It’s completely anonymous so anyone can join. It’s a safe place for people to come and chat if they need some advice or even if they just need someone to talk to. I host the support group every Thursday from 7:30-8:30 on www.mobieg.com,” he says.
Thutoke Lefa Day Care is another project. “There is nothing more important than our youth, so I visit this day care in the rural settlement in Bloemfontein as often as I can to bring them toys. I also try and fund-raise equipment, etcetera, for them.”
His last project is BackaBuddy. “I’ve become involved with BackaBuddy to try and help pay for a trans-gender woman’s, gender reassignment surgery. This is being done through crowd funding! We are trying to raise R200k,” says Pinnick
Pinnick’s boyfriend, Xander Steyn, was Mr Gay World Southern Africa 2017. Pinnick feels he has big shoes to fill. “I’m using that to drive me to work even harder. He is an amazing role model and I’m proud to be his boyfriend.”
Pinnick would like to thank everyone for their amazing support. “To all my LGBT fans, remember, you’re beautiful just the way you are, never let other people determine your worth! I hope I can make all of you proud and bring back the title of Mr Gay World Southern Africa to Bloem.”
