Bubbles for the festive season
There’s a KRONE BOREALIS VINTAGE CUVÉE BRUT 2016 … 90 per cent chardonnay, with nine per cent Pinot Noir and just a smidgen of Pinot Blanc … it has an elegant, iridescent golden hue and delish with Naked oysters, Ricotta and roasted tomato bruschetta with pancetta and Fire-roasted lemon-and-black pepper chicken kebabs.
For those who love all things pink, there’s a VINTAGE ROSÉ CUVÉE BRUT 2016 … a tribute to Pinot Noir, it’s a paradox of rich, berry fruit and refreshing, natural elegance, and is lovely with an old fashioned prawn and avocado cocktail with spiced lime wedges, or Charcuterie board.
The KRONE DEMI-SEC is probably the closest in style to the first famous sparkling wines of France a century ago, with just a touch of sweetness.
KRONE NIGHT NECTAR DEMI-SEC 2016 is pale lemon-yellow, has scents of baked golden apples, piecrust and almonds and tastes of lemon drops, sweet yellow apple and subtle marzipan flavours … swoon! Drink it with a creamy and fragrant butter chicken curry, vanilla-bean bundt cake or Pistachio macarons.
KRONE NIGHT NECTAR DEMI-SEC ROSÉ 2016 is its pink sister … subtle salmon blush, with a spun sugar, raspberries and cranberries scent, and a taste that’s all strawberries and cream. Just lovey with prawns grilled on the coals or a strawberry cream cake pud.
These bubblies all sell for around R120; you’ll find them at your local bottle store.
